On a very exciting Saturday in June at the fabulous Wyre Agility Show held at Cartmel Racecourse in Cumbria, Jean Tuck and Ross finally achieved the goal they had been striving for for so long - winning out of Starters. By a peculiar quirk of fate it was the first time this season that we were competing at the same show as Jean and Ross and what a thrill it was to see their victory. The morning had been exciting enough when Jean and Ross had taken 2nd place in Starters Agility, but that was capped in the afternoon with a tremendous run in Starter Jumping. Jean and Ross had an early running order of about 30 in a class of 140 dogs and it soon became clear that lots of dogs were getting eliminated - it was that sort of course! As the numbers of dogs left to go dwindled the tension got greater and greater - we knew there were some good dogs still to run, including a few who were competing as Starters for the last time and the pairing that would go on to win both Starters Jumping and Starters Agility the following day. Trying to blow poles off from the sides of the ring didn't seem to help, but watching them fly over the jump immediately ahead of them as they emerged from the tunnel provided all the encouragement that was needed!
